Boston University Center for Computing Acoustic Solutions

Boston, MA

Designed by KPMB, Boston University’s Center for Computing & Data Sciences has been named as one of the 10 projects shaping architecture in 2023 by Azure Magazine. MCM Acoustical worked closely with KPMB to propose solid Western Hemlock (rather than a standard MDF core) as part of the project had an exterior application. While MDF is generally more dimensionally stable than solid wood, certain woods like Western Hemlock perform well [in external environments]. MCM Acoustical coordinated with three separate installers: the millworker for the walls, the drywall contractor for the ceiling, and the glazier for the exterior. The project was engineered so that there is a seamless flow between all three of the components.
